money wins: it’s not about the price tag

One of my patients told me she pays over $700 for a monthly injection of a medication that her insurance would cover if she chose to take the pill version instead. However, that would be a pill every day or multiple times a day, and she simply doesn’t want to do that.

Money buys you options, and that’s what I want for you. Not specifically to buy expensive medication, but to give yourself options.

🧠 Mindset Shift of the Week

Money stress isn’t just in your head. It can mess with your sleep, mood, and even your health. If you’ve ever felt anxious or overwhelmed thinking about your finances, you’re not alone. But I just want you to know, it doesn’t have to stay that way.

😔That’s a little heavy. To lighten the mood a bit, here’s a funny take on money stress we can all relate to.

💡 Smart Saving Tip

Saving more doesn’t have to mean cutting out everything you enjoy. A percentage-based budget helps you decide ahead of time how much to save, spend, and enjoy guilt-free. This short video on how to afford anything demonstrates the effect of this method in practice.

📉 Debt-Free Game Plan

Side hustles and overtime can help pay off debt faster, but not if they leave you drained. Start by choosing ways to earn that fit your energy, schedule, and skill set. Freelancing is a great start.

The Smart Money Bundle is coming this June with tools to help you increase your income without burning out. Keep an eye out!

📈 Investing Made Simple

Stocks, bonds, mutual funds, ETFs—what does it all mean? Knowing your options helps you make smart choices based on your goals and risk comfort. ETFs vs. Mutual Funds breaks down two of the most common choices in a super beginner-friendly way.

While searching missingmoney.com for myself (because why not?), my sister’s name popped up, and she was able to claim over $300 plus interest. If you haven’t checked yet, take a few minutes. There could be free money out there with your name on it.

Let me know if you find anything (you don't have to say how much)!

Last week, I told you about how I helped my sister find over $300 she didn’t know she had ($334.28 plus interest, to be exact). Today, I want to share a little more about how that happened and why it might be worth your time to check for yourself. That day, I was doing one of my favorite “nerdy money things”...checking missingmoney.com to see if there were any unclaimed funds under my name. Now, to be honest, I’ve done this search before... multiple times. 😅 But since I keep my money pretty...

Last week, I met with a client for a Smart Money Strategy Session. She felt like she was drowning, and it was clear why. Every dollar coming in was already spent. So saving? Felt impossible. As we talked, it became clear that most of her money decisions were being made in the moment. Whatever expense popped up, that’s what got handled. But there wasn’t a plan for how much she could afford ahead of time. No strategy to guide those choices. I challenged her to pick one major expense to either...

You’ve probably seen the “Buy Now, Pay Later” options all over the place…Affirm, Afterpay, Klarna, you name it. It’s tempting to break up a purchase into smaller payments instead of paying the full amount upfront. But here’s something you need to know:BNPL loans are now being reported to your credit report. 👉🏽In April, I shared on Threads that Affirm had already started reporting to Experian. The others are following suit. This can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how you handle...
